Auslöschung

I have read a novel by Thomas Bernhard, “Auslöschung: Ein Zerfall”. This novel is full of curses to the main character Murau’s own family or anything, with self-disgusts. The style of the writing is full of indirect speech and lacks of column breaks, indicating that the whole writing is a seamless subjective view of Murau himself, sometimes a delusion of him. The curses are more thorough than that of “Of Human Bondage” by Somerset Maugham, however, in some aspects this is a comedy. The insertion of laughter by Gambetti, or Maria’s attitudes, represent the humorous natures of exaggerations by Murau. At almost the end of the novel, Murau himself admitted them. You can imagine the dramatization by Murau is not an objective truth for the story. A same old story, not a rare event, is reformed into an attractive episode by the exaggerations. Of course, from a different viewpoint the dramatization would be in a different direction. The objective truths would be a fulcrum and images from a number of viewpoints would be differ from a person to a person. It is important to inspect what is literally described in the text and what is not but is supposed by lacks of literally expressions.
