Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

I have watched a stop motion animation, “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”. It is a reorganized drama of Carlo Collodi’s “Le avventure di Pinocchio”. Of course, the original story has a plenty of political satires and “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” involves similar matters so far as fascism. However, this stop motion animation with wood carving taste has heart-warming mood. Japan is now confronting spring season, but in shivering season such as the talking cricket finally died would be the best season for feeling the heart-warmth in sentimental mood. As in other Guillermo del Toro’s movies, something went wrong with angels and cherub-looking existence with four wings and many eyes appears as an old spirit Wood Sprite. Her sister is Death, who serves for every living matter. Both the existences add flavors for dark fantasy. Despite these flavors, this story is for all the children and grown-ups who would like to recall the memory of childhoods. The story has common theme embracing the world of 19C to 21C. It silently shows what AI would learn from living beings. It fits well with the time span of the movie and well-produced. Both the talking cricket and the baboon “Spazzatura” are good drolleries!
