Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Genocidal Organ(虐殺器官)

On February the 4th 2017, I watched movies called “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” and “Genocidal Organ(虐殺器官)”. I happened to watch these two movies together due to my schedule, however, the main theme of them turned out to be interlinked each other.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is a Tim Burton fantasy movie, and the original novel was written down by Ransom Riggs. It is a story about a solitary child Jake, who happened to encounter with peculiar children living with Miss Peregrine (a peregrine falcon) in the endless loop of the same day, also followed by the darkness and hologausts (you can imagine what they really mean by vocal sounds). The unknown special ability of Jake is one of the many keys in this story. The story was full of the main message, peculiarity does not mean alienation from the society, though it often causes distress. You can enjoy colorful production of the movie, which is one of the prominent characters in Tim Burton movie. You can also tell American English and British English in the movie, which has already meant to the bridge between different cultures. The spectacle of moving skeletons was very like Tim Burton movie. The ages of audience were comparably older than a normal movie, indicating deciphering the code of this movie is still interesting not only to children but also to older people. Tim Burton said, “Not all the mysteries are resolved.” and this is a mere step to the next stage. He always makes a good dream, though sometimes it is like “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Genocidal Organ is originally wrote down by a famous Japanese write Keikaku Ito(伊藤計劃), who died in a young age by cancer. He intended to describe never ending eschatology by the loss of peaceful order. That is why he select the United States and developing countries as a stage of this eschatology.

The story is of near future science fiction, when Sarajevo disappeared by a nuclear weapon. The world is separated by developed countries controlled by utilizing personal information, and developing countries with chaotic civil war. The separation ensures order and chaos in the corresponding sets of countries, respectively. The man of leading role, Kravis Shepherd is chasing an American named John Paul (not John Paul Jones), who somehow leads genocide in the country he stays. The detail of the story is more or less different from the original novel. The most significant differences are the description of Alex’s death and eliminating the role of Kravis’s mother, which concomitantly erases original sin of Kravis. The expression of the movie is very cruel and be aware it is designated as R15.

The novels of Kafka frequently appear in the story. However, I can also see the impact from the novels of Paul Auster, which describe modern Americans’ social attitudes. You may select favorer character, either Kravis or Williams, as a man who is taken in by chaos or still stands in ordinary humanity.

Since the former provider of this movie has bankrupted, the animation movie seems to be produced by a smaller budget. Maybe this is the reason why the basal qualities of the animation, such as the movement of the drawings or the illumination of background, were comparably lower than the animation by the experts, In This Corner of the World(この世界の片隅に)or Your Name(君の名は。). However, the theater was full of young people, still forecasting success in the business.

Now you understand the common theme between these two, which is suitable for release in February the 3rd, Setsubun festival (a Japanese festival that invites happiness and exiles daemons).
