Egon Schiele: Tod und Madchen

On January the 29th 2017, I watched an Austrian-Luxembourgian movie called Egon Schiele: Tod und Madchen. It is a story for a famous artist in the beginning of the 20th century, Egon Schiele himself, baring the secret of “Tod und Madchen”. He is sometimes said to be erotic and decadent, however, in the movie such a sense was not so prominent. The movie is stuck of episodes of plain telling, and not unnecessarily dramatic. That invests the story line reality. The main focus is on the story line, not so much on actual arts themselves.

I have already forgotten the details, but when I was a pupil I once read a screenplay of a pupil who wants to become an artist like Egon Schiele. It was a strange screenplay and as today’s cinema room engulfs only the people older than undergraduates (neglecting the situation, there are still people of various ages), his life is not recommendable for ordinary pupils. If you have an acquaintance like Egon Schiele, maybe you do not like him because of his untrustworthiness. However, his arts are full of original expressions and symbolistic drawings. In that sense, people (such as Gustav Klimt) can notice how rare his ability as an original artist was. That raises the fame of him as an artist nowadays, and people need margins to bare such a talent in a society. He is challenging to taboos, which is an necessary act for the proceeding of the culture. You cannot deny everything one bare in his mind from a particular aspect. When you encounter the darkness, please do not forget a certain light that a human being casts, which is still on most part of the movie.
