On December the 10th 2017, I watched a movie called “Thunderbolt Fantasy 生死一劍”. It is a supplementary stories of Japanese-Taiwanese glove puppetry series created and written by Gen Urobuchi（虚淵玄）, who is famous for an animation series “Puella Magi Madoka Magica（魔法少女まどか☆マギカ）”, “Psycho-Pass”, “Fate/Zero” and so on. It is vivid that Taiwanese glove puppetry is one of the artistic cultures originated in Taiwan and you can feel a part of the technique in the ending of this movie, which is a short making movie of it. Fencings, or in some sense witchcrafts, of the characters are magnificent. On the other hand, the story is full of black humors as in other Urobuchi’s stories, and if you like “Puppetry Romance of the Three Kingdoms（人形劇 三国志）”, you can enjoy this Asian Fantasy with a modern sense of black humors. For example, a name of one swordsman, Shā Wú Shēng（殺無生）, is very strange because it literary means Kill No Lives. Normal people think that the name of this guy is very weird, and in the movie it became apparent that the guy also had self-awareness for the weirdness, and he began to speak of the origin of his name. All the other characters also have very weird name, and if you like you can search that what sorts of weird meanings the kanji characters of their names have. You can also compare the story line of this series with a fake story spoken within the movie, and can know a difference between the black comedy and a story of no good. I was a bit surprised that not only otaku people or pupils but also elder people or young women appeared at the theater. Due to its short release period in the theaters and December the 10th being a discounted Sunday, the theater was full of audience. There was a notice that the second season will appear soon, probably in 2018.
