Baccano!

I have watched a Japanese animation series “Baccano!”, which means fuss in Italian. Originally it is a Japanese novel series and a part of the series was animated. I watched the last few episodes in 2007 and was impressed since then. I thus finally watched through the whole series. It is about adventure, mystery and supernatural beings such as immortal human beings. One who drank a drink from a devil became immortal, and the devil observed those people to see what sorts of activities they would make. The story is in a good level of multiprotagonist one and the timeline goes back and forth, which invests the story mystery. There is neither true beginning nor true ending. It is a kind of crime movie, however, supernatural beings add a spice as human activities and interactions. That is what the devil observes, as Воланд in a Russian novel “Мастер и Маргарита”.  Socio-politically and literary-historically it is mainly a story of 1930s in USA, and what immortal beings act after they became immortal is a common theme in the history of literature. The organization is fantastic and sincerity is guaranteed by “an informant”. From the viewpoint of structuralism the plot is complicating as in mysteries. Overall, the lives of human beings are multiprotagonist stories without any aims.
