Arrival

On May the 20th 2017, I watched a movie called “Arrival”. It is a science fiction & mystery movie originated by a short novel by Ted Chiang. The main character is a woman linguist, who happened to encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence. She had a daughter, and the relationships between them is one of the clues to solve the mystery. Another clue is the purpose of the extraterrestrial intelligences. The linguist struggles to communicate with the intelligences. The third clue is the idea of time, and this theme gradually emerged along the story line. If people are more or less aware about what will happen in future, they have to deal and sublimate the situation even if the destiny is predetermined and unavoidable. The profoundness of intelligences evokes such a feeling, beyond narcissism. For miscellaneous, the theoretical physicist was extraordinary frank. The characters in the story behaved seriously, but there were some situation comedies such as UK people contacted and discussed mathematics with the intelligences though it was not an immediate purpose.
