The Green Knight

I have watched a movie “The Green Knight”. The story is inspired from one of the legends of the Matter of Britain in the late 14C, “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”. In contrast to the original chivalric romance, this is not any sort of heroic tale. It sounds like a true story underlay behind the scene, overstating the weakness of human appeared in the original story. The fake episodes piled up for a long while would result in such a tortured “heroic tale” of the modern age. Lazy Gawain is no different from an ordinary person, and finally he obtained a certain form of “preparation”. Magics appeared, as King Arthur’s big sister Morgause appeared (by the way, in the Japanese caption she was mistakenly described as Arthur’s little sister). Magics were attributed to Arthur’s another sister Morgan le Fay, but Morgause and Morgan are very frequently confused and the background of the movie reflects the situation. However, the final scene was nothing to do with all the magics. Gloomy description of the medieval England finally led out a solution in this end. The solution has a value of timeless. The camerawork is fragile, indicating the instability of the young Gawain. This movie is a sort of the movie one can watch when one is tired. It can be watched without knowing the original story, but if you know the original one, you can find it more interesting.
