Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters(GODZILLA –怪獣惑星)

On November the 20th 2017, I watched a crazy animation movie called “Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters(GODZILLA –怪獣惑星)”. The screenplay was written by Gen Urobuchi(虚淵玄), a famous writer known in Puella Magi Madoka Magica(魔法少女まどか☆マギカ), Fate/Zero, PSYCHO-PASS etc. As expected, it was full of black humor so much that I was always grinning throughout the movie. The main character was crazy from the first moment of his appearance. According to the description of “Godzilla” in the story, people had to avoid encountering Godzilla by any means. However, the crazy hero led the people to confront Godzilla with least rationality. The colonel was the most rational person among the team who landed on the earth, however, he suddenly went mad and made “ban-zai” attack characteristic to the other Godzilla movies. After that, everybody was mad and behaved in no sense such as addressing the intention to attacking Godzilla, which did not mean anything to Godzilla itself, who is by no means on the line of humanities/social science. The words and deeds of a natural scientist made a strikingly rational contrast to such behaviors, for example, mentioning 20,000 years was usually not enough for the evolution of the ecosystem on the earth as actually observed in the story, etc. The construction of SF was a kind of “Genocidal Organ(虐殺器官)” with rusty expression, and the motions of the characters were a bit awkward.
