Weathering With You(天気の子)

On December the 1st 2019, I watched an animation movie “Weathering With You(天気の子)”.

Although there are some interesting features appear in this movie, the description of supernatural power crushed me into the mud. For the good features, the movie vividly describes a confusion the young people from suburb encounter in the detailed background drawings. It also comes in touch with apparently mysterious nature of the weathers, that can be represented in real by floating microbes in the sky.

However, the first feature vanished in the air by supernatural phenomena that enforces disregarded people to be something special, instead of relieving them for their existence allowed even in situations nothing special. The second feature also vanished in the air, not including elements for scientific fictional stories. The basic settings of the story and a supernatural being seem not to be coherent during the development of the story. Especially, the situation is oversimplified by the description that a good weather provokes everyone a happiness. A bad weather would be necessary for living organisms by the water, unless it is not too much. A good weather in Hiroshima on August the 6th 1945 brought the city a dooms day because the vision was clear. On August the 9th 1945, a haze of Kokura saved the people by the invisibility and instead, Nagasaki was sacrificed. The weather and the output are not so easily connected.

This is in marked contrast to “Mushishi(蟲師)”, which also partially described supernatural phenomena, but more logically and in incomprehensible ways embraced in the nature. “Makura Koji” with dark side, “Hi Teru Ame ” for weathering in nothing special but unavoidable situation, “Komori E” with hallucination, “Tokoshie No Ki” with unintentional mission, all of the stories happen as they were, nothing with special intention. It is obvious which attitude would be preferable confronting actual nature in the wild that is not necessary concerned with human beings. “Mushishi” is also accompanied with beautiful distinguishing in drawing Japanese plant species, whose quality is so far nothing other went beyond. “Mushi” are half-creatures that can be described as neither living organisms nor non-living materials, and their existence matter the environments including human beings mostly with no directionality. For me, “Weathering With You” has some lacks of logical constructions.
